O Canada, Glorious and Free

One Brewery’s very Canadian call for unity.

In a country roiling in both economic and political turmoil, right now it can be hard to see a a safe path for the future. Every industry is facing concerns over new supply chains, sourcing new markets and how to support our own economy, locally and nationally. It can feel daunting, but one Ontario Brewery sees it as an opportunity to bring people together. For a company that values locally sourced ingredients, unique collaborations and giving back, it seems a natural response. So this February, Dominion City Brewing Co. of Ottawa, Ont., launched ‘Glorious and Free: A Trans-Canada Brewery Collaboration’.

It’s a call-to-arms for Canadian Breweries (and home brewers!), to join Dominion City in producing a 100% Canadian-sourced IPA. The initiative is designed to support local brewers and growers, while also supporting charities that strengthen our communities and country. Sounds pretty great, right? It gets even better, and dare we say, SO Canadian! All you need to do to join, is hop on to the dedicated web page to sign up and choose the charity or non-profit you would like to donate a portion of your sales to. Then, they provide the recipe. Normally, the expectation would be to replicate it exactly right? Not here! Dominion City wants Breweries to be able to shop their local growers, so that Canadian farms coast to coast are supported as well. The recipe is laid out in such a way, that it makes it easy to talk to your growers and suppliers about substitutions, so you can stick as closely to the original flavour profile and structure as possible. If that doesn’t scream helpful, understanding Canadians, we don’t know what does.

To unite the release, Dominion City Brewing asks for batches to be complete by May 31, 2025, so time is running out to get on board with this awesome initiative. We here at Topp’s Hops are proud to be among the ‘Glorious Suppliers’, providing 100% Canadian Grown Hops from right here in beautiful Abbotsford, British Columbia. We hope to see more brewers join the Trans-Canada Collab in the coming weeks and look forward to helping you meet your Canadian hop needs!
